Gilles Berthoud Aspin Leather Saddle (Cork)
The real beauty of the saddle is the way the leather top fixes to the frame. To date leather saddles have always been riveted to the frame which required
specialist skills to repair. Gilles has replaced the rivets with custom chamfered allen key screws which slot into brass washers which are individually
engraved with his name. The top front fixing washer is individually numbered so your saddle will have its own identity. The rear fixings are placed at the
back of the saddle leather so they will not damage your clothing. This fixing system allows anyone to remove and replace the leather top quickly and easily if required.
The leather is treated with naturally occurring dyes as oppposed to environmentally harmful chemicals to give a quality finish. The leather is hand
softened to be comfortable from the outset, reducing the riding in time relative to other popular leather saddles. The leather itself is cut using a very
expensive five axis CNC machine and creates saddles that are thicker than any other available. Gilles built his own testing machine and found that his saddles
will outlast existing leather saddles many times over.
